Timeok - Seven Floating Ways
Above the Sky
Catalogue Number: ABOVE016
Well another release from the ever busy Above The Sky Label, this time on their main
label and another production from Timeok (Stefan Ziegler) following his excellent
Sparkling Temptation which I was a huge fan of in 2003. Again he teams up with Andy
Prinz on this production and this time we have Paul Moelands otherwise known as Octagen
on remix duties. I'm a massive fan of Paul's work so this looked very promising from
the word go.
The vinyl this time contains the following:
A1) Octagen Mix
B1) Original Mix
Starting with the Octagen mix and it kicks off with a nice pumping beat as you can expect
from Paul with a bubbling arpeggiated synth running over the top. It soon starts to
build form the 1 minute or so mark with more layers of synths running over the top then
drops at about 1.30 and kicks back as we start to build towards the break. The break drops
away to some fx and then the main synth riff begins to filter in and build and OMG what a
riff! Proper uplifting driving trance is what this is all about and its a full-on peak
time trance monster! Layers of synths come in over the synth chord riff and lift the
emotion further - simply stunning! A second break comes in at about the 6 mins mark and
kicks back in again towards the outro.
Over onto the B side and the original mix. This starts with a crisp kickdrum and hihats for
the intro (DJs favourite ) then the nice pumping bassline joins in at around the minute mark
and we start to build. Pads and arpeggiated layers of synths come in over the bassline as
the emotion builds again towards the break. The break drops to synth chords which are
followed by a quick layer of strings then the beat kicks back in and chime-like pad chords
also build the atmosphere with the synth chord signature riff in the background. For me not
as strong as the Octagen mix but still excellent and you should definitely check both sides
of this as one is bound to suit your style.
In summary this is a brilliant piece of uplifting trance and another very strong release
for Above The Sky. Personally I'm favouring the Octagen mix which is going straight to the
front of my box and being hammered for the next month or two - no doubt about it. Anyone
moaning about the stale state of trance at the moment should check out the Octagen mix of this
- you will not be disappointed. Essential.
