Global Interference - Serenity/Vertigo
Above the sky
Catalogue Number: ABOVE 017
Release date: N/A
You can imagine how chuffed I was to return back from holiday and find another new
release from Tony and the guys at Above The Sky had arrived. Even better is that this one
comes from Rutger Van Bostelen and Eelke Kleijn, otherwise known as M.I.D.O.R. & Six4Eight
under a new alias of Global Interference! I'm a massive fan of all their work and I'm still
hammering No Mans Land from their After Midnight EP from a couple of months ago so I was
hoping this could live up to my expectations.
Anyway over to the vinyl and this time you get the following:
A1) Serenity (M.I.D.O.R. & Six4Eight Mix)
B2) Vertigo
Starting with Serenity, it kicks off with their typical nice driving beat and bassline
sound which I love. Layers of percussion drop in and the track begins to build nicely as
layers of squelchy acidy synths drop into the background adding to the atmosphere, with a lush
arpeggiated synth riff over the top. Layers of strings and pads join in the fun and really lift
the track as we go towards the break at 2 mins 30 or so. The tune drops to the awesome main
synth riff which layers and builds as the tune kicks back in - great stuff all round.
Onto the B side Vertigo and this is a much tougher sounding track and more in the style
of their No Mans Land track from the last EP. It kicks in with an awesome acidy bassline and
much more driving beats than Serenity. The bassline is soon joined by layers of lush pads and
synths then layers of distored synths drop in beneath. An awesome arpeggiated synth line bounces
in and really begins to lift the track as we head towards the drop. Pads and strings fade in
and then boom - a massive synth riff comes in and almost immediately the beats kick back in
hard. A second drop at around 5 mins 30 lifts the emotion again and this is bound to go down
an absolute storm at places such as Passion and Peach. Brilliant peak time trance and one sure
to be found on my new promo cd and in sets for some time to come.
Another awesome release from Above The Sky and from these talented producers, who
are proving they can deliver the goods time and time again. If you loved their After Midnight
EP this is going to be right up your street. One side a storming emotional trancer, the other
nothing short of a massive peaktime monster. Out of the two I'll probably play Vertigo the most
out of the two tracks, but you could happily drop both sides in a single set and be a very happy
man and there aren't many records where you can manage that. One or the other is almost certainly
going to appeal to you - absolutely essential.
