Thrillseekers - New Life
Adjusted Music
Catalogue Number: ADJ001
Well what you have here is the debut release on the Adjusted Music label, which Steve
Helstrip (aka The Thrillseekers) has set up to release his new material, following on
from other producers like Lange who have also done the same. It's the first single from
the Thrillseekers in ages, so I was looking forward to checking this out, having also
seen Steve play at Passion a few weeks ago. I'm a huge fan of Steve's work and so this
looked like a definite winner from the word go.
Onto the promo vinyl and you get the following:[>
A1) Original Mix
B1) Lange Mix
Starting with the original mix and this begins with a nice kick and typical warm bubbly
Thrillseekers bassline. A second layer of arpeggiated bassline drops in then at the one
minute mark the layers of lush synths appear to kick start the tune off. A snappy gated
snare drops in with pads and layer of the main synth riff also starts to come in as the
bassline drops away to the synths. A echoing organ-like synth riff as the synths build
as low strings build the break and get the hands reaching for the rafters. The beat kicks
back in as the powerful synth chords drive on the tune - brilliant stuff. The synths drop
away to the bassline and the tune builds again towards a 2nd break just after the 5
minute mark again to build up the atmosphere.
Onto the B and the Lange mix and this brings a slightly tougher take on the tune. A
driving arpeggiated bassline starts things off alongside the kick, soon jonied by layers
of congas and other percussion to build the mood. Tough synth stabs drop in over the
bassline alongside a poweful lead riff which drops away as the main riff comes in from
underneath then the beat drops away to the riff and fx. Haunting synths create the atmosphere
in the break then the synth riff from the original kicks in over the top until the beat
kicks back in to really get the feet moving.
A brilliant opening for the new label and in my opinion, the strongest work from Steve
in a good while. Brilliantly uplifting it went straight to #1 in my chart the first week
I played it out and I've also heard it take the roof off in Passion which is a fine
recommendation by any standards. I have to say I didn't go for the Lange remix at first
but having listened to it in more depth whilst writing this review, it's actually awesome
as well and I think that might get dropped tomorrow instead of the original just for a
change. Basically quality through and through and you really can't go wrong with this -
essential.
