Menno De Jong - Guanxi
Anjunabeats
Catalogue Number: ANJ032
Here we have the first release from up and coming DJ and producer Menno De Jong (also
a member of mpfs!!) on the mighty Anjunabeats label! It's great to see mpfs members
doing well for themselves so congratulations on that for starters Menno!
Onto the vinyl and you get the following:
A1) Original Mix
B2) Super 8 Mix
Starting with the Original mix to begin with, a swooshing synth is joined by a nice fat
kick drum and haunting choral pads in the background. Congas drop in over the kick to add
depth and then a short drop and the bassline and perc kick back in with some additional
pads before dropping to a lush arpeggiated bassline. The percussion comes banging back
in with haunting pads in the background and other mellow synth chords over the bassline
as the builds. The main lush filtered synth riff drops in over the top and then the beats
fall away to the break as the layes of pads and low synths work wonders for the dancefloor.
Layer upon layer of pads and synths build the emotion higher and higher and then the beats
kick back in and power the track on. A second shorter break at around just after 6 mins
builds up the tension again before the outro. Great uplifting peaktime track thats for sure!
Over onto the other side and the Super 8 Mix. This starts with a tough driving beat and
phased percussion starts things off soon to be joined by a typical lush Super 8 bassline
with acidy synths dropping in from behind. Layers of percussion lift up the power until
lush choral pads also filter in and the track drops away quickly only to drop back in hard
as layers of synth chords build the tune towards the break. A string synth riff filters in
and out as the acidy synths continue and then these too drop away to the pads and then in
comes the main riff. More powerful than the Original mix this is a proper full-on peaktime
monster and will do some serious damage across the dancefloors over the next few months.
I have to say what I like most about this tune is the riff which is very original IMO and
works really well. Personally I'm favouring the Super 8 mix of the two and it featured in
my recent RiseFM guest mix for the Elevated Trance show on there a couple of weeks ago.
Fans of Anjunabeats have yet another great track to add to their collection. Highly
Recommended.
