Bossanova - Stonecold
Purple-Eye
Catalogue Number: N/A
Another nice release from Purple Eye, this time a new act from Belgium by the name of Bossanova (listed
as Boss@nova in someplaces - dunno why) and the vinyl contains the following mixes:
A) Stonecold (Original Mix)
B1) Stonecold (Yves Galliard Mix)
B2) Stonecold (Bossanova Groove Mix)
I first heard the original mix of this a couple of months ago when I saw Armin play a 4 hour set at Passion
in Coalville, UK. I remember hearing the most amazing tune which had one of the most emotional breakdowns I've heard
in years. This is THAT tune and I'm happy to say that I've finally managed to get hold of at last!!!
I'll start off with the Original Mix as that's the bad boy in this package (IMO). It starts with a chilled
percussion and strings then the beats come in with the bass EQ'd right down then boom, the bass drops back in and
we're off. No messing around here thats for sure. The vocal drops in with the male voice in the background 'You left
me stone cold...You left....You left...' and small arpeggiated synths drop in. Mellow synth string chords lift the
atmosphere and then the drop comes into the breakdown - and what a breakdown!! Almost indie-style guitar chord riff
and a lovely melancholy male vocal to make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. It's a really diffferent sound
to the normal 'I love you' fluffy trance which you find all over the place now. The string chords lift and the chorus
comes in - fooking incredible is the only way I can describe it. The synths build and build then woah! the beats kick
back in full-on. Really pumping driving trance music at it's best.
Over onto the b side and we have the other two mixes. The Yves Galliard Mix is a bit more of the prog trance
side. Quite electro style percussion with small snippets of the vocal dropped in. Nice but not in the same league as
the original IMO which I'll be sticking with. The Bossanova Groove mix starts with some light percussion and chord stabs
and then kicks in with an almost Rui Da Silva style beat - mellow with odd funky guitar chords and I'm especially not
keen on the cheesy rap on it - urrgh.. Not for me I'm afraid although someone might like it.
Fans of quality uplifting trance should check this out. The male vocals might put some people off (tbh I'm not
a huge fan of male vocals either but this is a beauty!) but it takes the roof off in a club - believe me. Can't wait to
drop this out and surprise a few people
