Passiva - Clouds Like Heaven
Captured,
Above the sky
Catalogue Number: CAPTURED 002
Following on from the massive success of their first release, Sonicvibe & Mike
Shiver - Lunation (Nickson mix was awesome!), Captured follow up with a new production
from the upcoming and talented Dutch producer Galen Behr, otherwise known as Passiva.
You should obviously be aware of Galen from his excellent remix of St John Vs Locust -
Mind Circles and also his forthcoming remix of the new Envio track.
Anyway, back to the vinyl which contains the following:
A1) Original Mix
Faraway Project Mix
Starting with the original mix, this starts with a nice strong beat and percussion
which are soon joined by lush pads and synths in the background. The bassline kicks in at
around the 1min 10 mark and starts to build up this nice production. Layer upon layer of
synths and pads lift towards the break at 3 mins where irt drops to bubbling arpeggiated
synths with layers of swooshing pads and fx - quality. The main riff is done with a wicked
chime like synth which is almost guitar like but not a guitar but sounds awesome - this will
take the roof off in places like Passion for sure. A nice synth chord riff come back in over
the riff and boom the beat kicks back in. This is a really epic emotional piece of trance
and in my opinion his strongest production to date. If you like really uplifting trance like
Mind Circles and the like this will be right up your street and certainly one I'll be
hammering for the next few months.
Over onto the B side and the Faraway Project mix. Sam Saari (aka Faraway Project and
Castenada) is on remix duties. This starts with nice kick and bubbling synth chords in the
background. This is joined by a nice kinda square wave bassline which sounds really different
and works well here. I'm liking the nice crisp percussion here and the layers of synths work
well. As it drops into the break filtered chord pads come in with the main riff and we get a
breakbeat style break with the kick drum as it builds back up. Excellent remix work all around
and definitely worh checking as both sides are quality.
In summary, a stunning second release from this new label and could well be the
catalyst to turn Passiva into the big league. I'm a big fan of his work and I'm also lucky
enough to have another of his productions 'Serenity' which I'm playing a lot at the moment
from CD-R. Great work and another fine bit of trance for the box - highly recommended.
