Halifax - Reveal Your Innocence
Captured
Catalogue Number: CAPTURED003
Here we have the third release from the very up and coming Captured label out of Sweden
and this time a collaboration between Mark Otten and Frans Van Der Boom. I absolutely
love Tranquility so I was keen to check this out.
Onto the promo vinyl and you get the following:
A1) Original Mix
B1) Dreas Mix
Starting with the original mix and this starts with a crisp kick and the low throbbing
bassline which is typical of Mark's progressive trance style. Soon swinging almost funky
hi-hats drop in over the top alongside synthy stabbing chords which really gets the head
nodding. A gorgeous bendy synth riff stops in over the top of the chords and then layers
of string pads come in from behing and build the tune towards the break. The beats drop
away as the main chord riff filters in from the background then ramp up as the beat and
pads kick back in beautifully. A second drop to the bass and synths comes in again just
after the 5 minute mark and then builds once again with the synths and layers to an
awesome climax.
Over onto the other side and the Dreas mix. This is much more of a full on trance remix
and starts with a nice kick and perc with quiet pads in the background. A driving
bassline begins to filter in along with an overlaid arpeggiated synth riff which really
moves things on nicely. Synthy pad chords come in with the familar riff from the original
mix but built with addition layers of haunting choral pads and synths. The beat drops
away to the break just after the 3 minute mark as the stunning synth chords filter in
and out then just when you think it can't build the tension any more, a wicked breakbeat
kicks in hard then drops away before the kick drops back in and gets the feet back
stomping. A second drop just after the 6 minutes mark with the haunting vocal before
driving on again towards the outro.
Overall another brilliant release from Captured who are definitely proving themselves to
be a label to watch for the uplifting trance fan. The original side is a stunning
progressive trance monster but with enough emotion and power to work the most stubborn
floors. Dreas works the original into full on peaktime territory and you're going to be
hearing this around a lot in the next few months I can guarantee it. I'm favouring the
beauty of the Original mix on this one although I can see a lot of people loving the
Dreas mix with its more full-on style. Definitely one for the front of the box - highly
recommended.
