Cosmo Kid - Neon Pressure
Armada Music
Catalogue Number: CLEL0006
Well an interesting one this time as for those who don't know Cosmo Kid is
yet another alias of the one and only M.I.K.E. This time it's something a
little more progressive on Armada offshoot Club Elite. Haakon Vingelsgaard
aka Haak is brought in for remix duties as well.
Haak Remix
Well I'm usually a big fan of Haak's work, especially his own releases such as
Bedlam are right up my street. This time it's quite a dark prog trance number
with chunky shuffling beats to begin things. Sweeping pads come in over the
percussion with a bubbling synth bassline. His typical mad bleepy fx drop in
occasionally over the top as the tune builds towards the drop at around the
3:30 mark. Now here's where the problems with this release really begin -
because it really doesn't do much else and at over 8 and a half minutes its
a decent warmup tune but nothing more than that - the nice bleeps in the
break still don't bring it any real hook to make it memorable.
Original Mix
Well onto the Original mix and this is a different kind of sound altogether
from the Haak remix. It starts with a bubbling synthy bassline which is soon
joined by a dark thudding kick and 808 percussion. A bliipy mellow synth riff
drifts in over the top as the tune starts to build. Tough acidy synths come in
alongside layers of pads making this quite a dark progressive piece of progressive
trance. The main break comes which drops to a filtering bleepy noisey synth line
before the beats kick back in again. Again a decent enough filler tune but nothing
particularly memorable.
Overall then I'd say an average release for Club Elite which is a shame as I'm
usually a pretty big fan of their releases. Certainly this is not one of Haak
or M.I.K.E's better efforts production wise. Fans of the label will no doubt
lap it up but I doubt it will gain them any new fans.
