Solarium - Venice Under Water

Armada Music

Catalogue Number: CLEL0007

Yet another release on the Armada sub-label Club Elite, this time from none other than Ron Bercovitch (aka Sunquest) under his new Solarium alias. A member of this very forum this brings his debut release under this alias to the streets.

Original Mix

A typically crisp kick and percussion start the ball rolling and straight away this is a more upbeat and peaktime tune than the usual Club Elite tracks. A bubbling synthy bassline drops in over the percussion with layers of haunting sine wave type pads then a short drop and the tune really begins to build. A legato style riff comes in with lush string pads as we go towards the break at around the 2:30 mark. The beats drop away leaving the synth riff and choral pads and fx to lift the motion then the beats kick in again powering the tune on. I particularly like the nice bass synth and this is a quality early peaktime trancer - mellow but with enough kick to move the floor for sure.

M.I.K.E. Remix

This starts with a typical dark bassline and percussion. Tough acidy synths come in over the beats with the chord sequence from the original but done in a darker more twisted style. Stabbing chord pads come in over the top again building the tune towards the break, but for me the darkness of this remix loses the uplifting quality of the original, as the drop comes to dark echoing percussion sounds rather than lush uplifting melodies. Again, M.I.K.E. fans will no doubt lap this up but like the previous Club Elite release it's not really anything out of the ordinary.

Overall then I'm going with the Original Mix on this one which is a quality bit of peaktime trance. Recently awarded my Big Tune Of The Week on my Waveforms show and rightly so this is perfect for those early peaktime moments when you want lush melodies and emotion rather than pounding beats and massive synth riffs. If Ron can keep producing great tracks of this calibre, then he's definitely going to be a face to watch in 2005. Highly recommended.
