David’s dancefloor sensibilities shine through on Carrier, a track which bounces
along with the illusion that it’s running somewhat faster than it actually is.
This is aided in no small part by some brutal percussion, which keeps things
clearly heading in the one direction. Floaty pads are out, clever melodies and
huge cutting synths are in. In the right hands it’s a euphoric moment. Very clever
and very cool.
Envy nods with all the subtlety of a woodpecker towards the crushing beats and
loops that have defined the better side of the nuskool sound over the last decade
and yet it still retains its own identity. The huge bassline is accompanied not
only by experimental style beeps and hisses but some lovely atmospherics at the
points where things breakdown. If Carrier sets it up, then Envy hits it home.
Even in the hands of the less experienced both numbers have the ability to do serious
damage. David’s first notable foray into the world of peaktime breaks comes highly
recommended.
