Darren Tate Vs Andrea Britton - Take My Hand
Direction Records
Catalogue Number: N/A
Well another release from the ever productive Darren Tate, this time under his
own name and with the vocal talents of Andrea Britton who you might remember from the
Oxygen track 'Always on your mind' from a while ago.
Onto the vinyl and you've got the following:
A) Vocal Mix
B) Instrumental Mix
Starting with the Vocal mix and you start with some pads, soon joined by a
kick drum which filters out of the background and a dark synthy bassline joins in.
Quite mellow (around the 138 or so BPM) and then it quickly builds to the vocal drop
at around the 1:30 mark. Andrea Britton's voice works beautifully here as the layers
of pads and strings. The main breakdown comes in just before the 3 minute mark as
massive powerful synth chords which are almost guaranteed to take the roof off any
crowd. Typical crystal clear Tate production and style. Personally I'm really liking
this vocal which really fits well into the track and Andrea's voice works really well
with trance tracks. As with all Darren's tracks, you'll probably love or hate the
vocal and it's sure to be one of those that you're sick to death of by the time it
comes to the general release date and it's been hammered all over the radio. Vocal
haters will be pleased to know that the instrumental follows exactly the same
arrangement as the original mix but is vocal-free, so if you don't like the vocal,
check the instrumental instead.
In summary, you're really probably going to fall into the love or hate Darren
Tate camps and this is probably not going to suddenly change your opinion. Now I'm as
critical as ever about the cheesy releases under his Jurgen Vries alias but you can't
deny his talent as a producer. The only criticism as a DJ is his constant inability to
provide decent intros into his track and this is no exception. It goes from pads to
the first breakdown in under a minute which is a pain for DJs like me who like to do
slow smooth transitions between mixes. This is probably best played as a set opener from
the opening pads as the filtered kick and sudden build is going to make this a pain in
the arse to mix in well. Similarly the outro is a tad on the short side as well so watch
out. Still, a great bit of vocal trance and one I'll be giving some hammer over the
coming months. Fans of his work and vocal trance lovers should check this one out.
