Mirco De Govia – Vital Spark (Euphonic)
Euphonic Recordings
Catalogue Number: Euphonic 59
Mirco De Govia came to fame with a track called Epic Monolith which became a smash hit
in 2001 and got signed to Xtravaganza Recordings. He has remixed tracks by Above & Beyond,
Lasgo, Kyau VS Albert, Sonorous & Sun Decade and now brings us his latest bomb “Vital
Spark”, courtesy of Euphonic Records.
Original Mix
The track starts off with a nice hard kick, but at a decent pace. Add a cymbol before building
up nicely to a mini break, which introduces some nice mellow synths and a floaty riff before
dropping into a really classy trance baseline. A rather annoying whiny riff is added as the
track builds nicely and baseline chords are added. The break is absolutely beautiful. A
combination of breaks and lush melodies really make this something special. The drop isn’t
the major talking point of the track and that says a lot about what Mirco wanted to achieve
with this. The main melody is really lush and the chord changes work perfectly. This is a
perfect track to use in a warm up trance set.
Sassot Remix
The start of this mix makes it seem really different. Its got a tribal esq feel to it. The
kick accents the tribal-esq riff perfectly. Inline with the original, the track has a mini
break before introducing the baseline. There are some rather odd out of key notes in the
mini break which work quite well. The baseline gives the mix a techy edge which Sassot uses
to good effect to build it up. Some nice teasing riffs are used in the build up to hint
on the main melody. Not too keen on the little acid riff used – seems a bit out of place.
When the main breakdown comes, a lush backing riff is used. Instead of using the main melody
during the breakdown, we have a nice techy synth which works rather nicely (apart from with
that annoying acid riff!). This is a nice alternative to the original. Would work quite well
in a club.
Cressida Remix
This is much slower than the other two (at a guess sounds about 128 bpm!). Again a hard kick
is used and with a rather tribal drum riff. Main baseline reminds me a lot of Angello &
Ingrosso’s productions. Cressida’s dreamy melodies start to creep in over the baseline. Main
breakdown teases nicely for a while before leading into some very very lush dreamy synths.
There is a teasing little breaky drum in the background before the breaks do kick in. Not sure
about the lil spin back before the main melody kicks in. I feel the baseline is the big
letdown of this mix. Its far too strong and is the main accent of the mix which just doesn’t
work for me. However, I can see its appeal and I’m sure a lot of prog trance fans will enjoy
it.
