Exertion - The Emerald
Pumpin Choons
Catalogue Number: CD-R
Exertion is the production duo of Ireland's John O'Callaghan and Neal
Scarborough, Emerald is their first work together under this guise and quite
frankly it's red hot trance. Once again, like Never Forget, it's getting
plays up and down the UK on some of the more discerning dance floors, and
has recently been played by Graham Gold on London's Kiss FM. From that you
can see the kind of support this track is gathering already at an early
stage in it's existence.
It's another prime slice of euphoric trance, executed brilliantly in
terms of it's productions, and it appears to push all the right buttons.
John O'callaghan may well be on his way to making a big name for himself
if he continues to churn out tracks as good as this. Soaring synths take us
rapidly into the first break, this is just a taster of what is to come in
the main, secondary breakdown. Expect some serious hands in the air madness
as this one drops down, meaty strings accompanied by a sultry piano which
twinkles like a star in the night sky are the main features of the break.
Diving quickly back into the action, this one ducks in and out, teasing,
backing off and coming right back again a wash of filtering and production
trickery. The percussive elements which bridge the segments of track together
are interesting to say the least, and I’m especially fond of the breakbeat
which appears towards the back end of the track adding a little more depth
and variation. Where some tracks would just recycle themselves and loop
again after 4-5 minutes The Emerald is constantly progressing forwards
building, harder, faster, stronger than before.
This will no doubt be a real a stalwart of a tune in the box of
many a top jock over the next few months, well into 2004 when it should see
it's official release along with 2 other remixes which I shall keep under
wraps for the time being. Needless to say, this is a rather large track
with masses of potential, one certainly that you should be looking out for
in the new year. Total hedonistic pleasures, with unrivalled production
quality. You can't go far wrong with this.
