Exertion - Never Forget
Catalogue Number: White CD-R
When you can claim to have a tune which is yet to be signed to a big
label that is getting plays from what reads as a who's who of trance, you
know that your unsigned status is soon to change. Exertion's Never Forget
is currently being caned by top jocks, Les Hemstock, Three Drives, Guy Ornadel
and AJ Gibson to name but some. When you hear it you'll understand why it's
so well supported.
This would make for a good set opener, the bassdrum doesn't kick in
until a good minute has passed by, we begin with a combination sizzling bass
notes, blended into a soft pad which plays throughout the majority of the
track. Add to that a spooky sounding skit which drifts in and out, you have
a very interesting and slightly dark commencement. The kick is solid, and has
a Paul Van Dyk kind of feel to it, definitely something you could envisage
him playing towards the start of a set. The main riff rears it's ugly head
around 4 minutes in, it's somewhat of a slow burner this one, which adds to
the anticipation and overall effect of the tune. The riff in question is a
fine example of simplicity reigning triumphant over complexity, and what
is essentially a few notes in an arrangement up and down the scale works
to great effect.
Once again, we have hear a neat and tidy instrumental trancer with
a melodic edge, this one knocking more on the door of the darker side of
life with that bassline. But in a heaven and hell sense, the riff is light
and airy, and the two play off well against each other. Let the battle of
the labels commence.
