Ferry Corsten - It's Time
Positiva Records
Catalogue Number: CDTIVDJD206
(Extended)
Subtle breaks and a soft riff escapes the speakers for the first few beats, if first impressions are
anything to go on, this is gonna be the bee’s knees. As the track presses on and the synth’s push it
into the electro field I was a little “hmmmm” about it all, it doesn’t compliment it, nor does it ruin
it. Something not quite as “in your face” would have been better but never the less...
The vocals creep in, used to very good effect. There sharp, been sung with great power, almost as if
the vocalist had something to prove.
Sticking to the subtle breaks the track proceeds with the lush vocals sang to there fullest. The out of
place synth’s from the intro occasionally creep in there and take the lime light before dipping into
the background.
This is nice, it’s not what I expected from Ferry Corsten and I wouldn’t play it out, but it is very
nice, perfect listening material. It also makes up the awful “Rock your body rock” which unfortunately
is Ferry’s highest charting track to date.
(Agnelli and Nelson remix)
Following 2003/2004 anthem Holding onto Nothing isn’t going to be easy, I’d hate to be in Agnelli and
Nelson’s shoes right about now! There remix of It’s Time follows the same kind of pattern Holding onto
Nothing did, The similarities are endless, in fact swapping the vocals and you’d be mistaken for thinking
it was in fact Holding onto Nothing, the unreleased mix or something.
They’ve made full use of the vocals in this mix, the majority of the intro (that building up to the
lengthy break down) plays host to the both verse and chorus. They sound nice and keep the track above
water; personally I reckon the track would be dull without them.
The breakdown doesn’t really do much for me in honesty, its nothing I've not heard before. It’s not as
euphoric/uplifting as Holding onto Nothing, more serious and sophisticated if that’s possible.
Overall, it’s not my thing, it seems very weak and more of a quick buck for A&G, nothing they’ve spent a
lot of time and effort on. Maybe I'm comparing it to much to Holding onto Nothing, maybe this is why
I've been a little harsh, fact is though, if I wanted to listen to Holding onto Nothing, I’d play Holding
onto Nothing.
(Ferry Corsten’s Flashover remix)
So, dropping the needle off right at the beginning your introduced to beautifully grafted breaks with the
occasional dig of synth’s. At this moment I'm chuffed, this is where it’s all at, the stabs of base are
strong enough to hold the track for a full on trance track. Following a lengthy intro comes a kick, a
heavenly kick with synth’s and a dash of vocals thrown in for good measure. Very nice indeed.
For the longest time it feels like its being built up to something that’s gonna roll out like a clap of
thunder, well, it doesn’t deliver as you’d expect but that doesn’t mean for one second it falls flat on
its face. A string of curious beats, high energy synth’s and that deep underlying bass line will have
every trance fan lapping it up.
Its good, easily Ferry’s best original work since Digital Punk, tis a shame this isn’t going as the original
mix but never the less a very worth while purchase.
(Kai Tracid remix)
My own personal feelings aside for Kai (I have issues) I wasn’t expecting anything special. I’ve heard Kai
once or twice and I've not been overly impressed. Originals are far too heavy for my liking, radio edits
stink of stilton... Never the less I owned the damn thing, may as well review it.
The pounding kick is perfect for that last set of the night, that’s for sure. It hits hard and does a good
job of turning even the softest of trance pussy cats into angry tigers.
A lengthy build up leads to the vocals. Now I have no problem what so ever we’ve these vocals, I think they
cross over very well, the best of both worlds (trance and cheese) will enjoy them. Unfortunately for the sound
young Kai is going for, it’s a bit off putting having female vocals laid along the top of an otherwise
beautifully crafted track. Never the less there’s only one chorus of them then we hit a break down. The synth’s
punch in followed by that tough baseline, oh ai its luvvly jubbly. After a 64 beat bar you expect the full
riff to kick in, shame it doesn’t. If it had it would have completed the track, instead we are left with a
track that falls short of amazing.
It’s good, for the ‘arder generation it’s very good, but its not cricket and there are better mixes to
tantalise your taste buds.
Overall, yeah, deffinantly worth your pennies, Ferry's outdone himself with this, calm and powerful in the
original, dirty and harsh in his Flashover mix. Whilst the A&G and Kai aren't my cup of tea they will appeal
to others, probably yourself. Final verdict? Keep your eye on the shop floor, miss this, miss brilliance.
