Frase - Static Source

Alter Ego Records

This is the latest production from one of the biggest rising trance stars in the UK. Frase has been having a lot of his latest work played out by the worlds biggest DJs and has shown that he has the drive and motivation to build on this success for many years to come.

Original Mix

Definately the most pounding of the three, this really showcases what style of trance is becoming big in 2006. The riffs are so simple, but yet so effective. The guitar riff used throughout is something very different and you certainly dont expect the breaks in the main breakdown. Builds up very nicely throughtout to maximum effect. Only critiscm I have of it is that there are occasions in the track where the bass has been eq'd out and dropped back in again, which I'm personally not keen on, but apart from that its a quality production indeed!

The Remixes

First up is a remix from Russian producer Tenthu. This mix takes the track in a slightly more euphoric slant, but also adds some breaky effects and a drum pattern which wouldnt sound out of place in a progressive track. If I didnt know what this was, I would be suprised to find out its a remix because very few elements of the original have been kept. It is a nice alternative to the original mix though.

Finally is the Rob B Mix. This is a much more progressive effort and uses a lot more layers than the original, but still manages to keep a lot of them subtile. The floaty riffs are what make this the standout of the two remixes for me. Only critiscm I have of it is that the main melody which kicks in just before the breakdown doesnt sound right at all! Its not been barred correctly! Whilst this is an interesting effect, I'm not a big fan of the idea! But overall, this is a superb remix and I would definately use this out in a warmup set.

This track has got huge reactions on the few occassions I've been lucky enough to hear it out. It has had support from Ferry Corsten, who dropped the Rob B mix as the first track of his set at Turnmills in Feb 2006. John Askew & John O Callaghan have also been kaning the Original Mix. Watch out for this, its massive!
