Graham Gold - Culebra
Graham Gold's Website
Graham Gold is an absolute legend. His shows on Kiss 100 used to be one of the highlights of the week for many a clubber and his DJ sets are still some of the most energetic you will hear anywhere in the world. He has also run a few record labels in his time: Koolworld, Good:As and Relative Records. Culebra is an island about half hour east of Puerto Rico where Graham stayed in a few years back He had 2 weeks of absolutely mad weather, so Graham decided to make a track about the emoticions those two weeks of crazy whether brought him in audio form!
Original Mix
Starts off with a pounding kick and a teasing bass riff with some perc thrown in for good measure. The baseline is faded in and the track builds up really nicely to the break, which includes some really lovely piano melodies and some gorgeous strings. This is definately the most lush of the three mixes and works really nicely.
The Remixes
First up is the Rough Seas Mix. This is definately my favourite of the three mixes by a long way. Its driving pounding vibe is what I absolutely love about trance at the moment. The electronic riffs underneath the melody work a real treat and I can see this going off big time in any club where its dropped.
Finally is the Calm Seas Mix. This is similar to the Rough Seas mix in someways but also adds the piano melody from the original mix throughout the build up & drop. A nice alternative to the Rough Seas Version which is very pounding and doesnt leave room for the piano melody from the original
Definately one of Graham's finest productions to date. I dont know whether I like it more than The Lost City, but its definitely close!
