Agnelli and Nelson - Holding onto Nothing
Xtravaganza
Catalogue Number: N/A
If you're not already familiar with this track, then perhaps you should
not consider yourself a true fan of trance. Holding onto Nothing is by far and
away the best vocal trance track I.ve heard since Motorcycle first touched down
at the beginning of 2003. Agreed this has taken a hell of a long to finally surface
in purchasable form. That however is only the rare promo copies. I'm completely
baffled as to what Xtravaganza are playing at with this really. It claimed to be
coming out in December time, it was put back. Even now you'll be hard pushed to
find a copy as things stand. So we'll just have to wait and see how things play
out. Which seems to be an all too familiar process these days with the bigger
tunes.
Onto the track itself, epic is a huge understatement when it comes to
describing the blissfully sensual tune. Personally this was just the track I
needed to stoke the fires and make vocal trance appealing again. Like many people,
I had begun to wonder whether quality vocal performances where a thing of the past
as originality had been lacking. True this doesn't break the mould in terms of it's
genre, but it harks back to the good old days with a 2004 twist. Aided by the
purposeful lyrics, and an uncompromising backdrop. Holding onto Nothing is constantly
building to a climax, where most tracks have run their course by 7 minutes, we are
confronted with a further build up of synths in a typically Agnelli & Nelson style;
finally exploding into something really rather special.
I've had this on a constant loop for sometime now, and unquestionably weeks
and maybe months to come too. Fall in love with that vocal if you haven't already,
embrace the return of one of the scenes original trance duos. You might also be
interested to hear this is just a taster of what is to come from the forthcoming, and
rather amazingly for a trance artist, 3rd album. We wait with bated breath for that.
In the meantime, this is more than ample fodder for the record box. Sheer brilliance.
