Aquasource - Waking Up The Sun
J00F Records
Catalogue Number: JOOF18
Well another new release from John OO Fleming's ever popular JOOF label and this time it's the turn of Finnish producer
Aquasource with his track 'Waking Up The Sun'.
Onto the promo vinyl and you get the following:
A1) Original Mix
B1) Kuffdam & Plant Mix
Starting with the original mix, this begins with a nice powerful kick and percussion and is soon joined by a nice pumping
bassline. A short drop just before the 1 min 30 mark and then tough stabby synth chords some in as layers of acidy synths
come in to join the fun. A bendy portamento synth riff drops in along with some arpeggiated synth riffs and the tune really
starts to build and build towards the break. The main break drops and a powerful synth riff is sure to get the trainspotters
running up to the booth to namecheck the tune and then kicks back in to get the feet stomping again. This again is almost
Goa in style with the Yahel-like layers of acidy synths and riffs and although not maybe an immediate grabber like some
other tunes, this is a definite front of the box grower for me. Class stuff.
Over onto the B side and Kuffdam and Plant bring us their take on this. I loved their last release on Joof so this was
looking good. A nice almost beat starts things off nicely with complex layers of percussion (a regular feature of their tunes
I might add) and is soon joined by layers of fx and sweeping synths and choral stabs. The beat drops away to leave the choral
synths as layers of pads drift in, building the emotion in the break then drops back in again. The use of fx really works
well on this remix I think as do the short breaks.
In summary, another class release from the JOOF camp. I'm more inclined towards the original mix but then I love anything
with bendy twisty synth riffs and this works so well. This is a definite grower - give it a few listens or hear it out on
a big PA and I think you'll be hooked. Check the B as well as this is a quality remix and is one of those useful tunes for
dropping mid set to give the crowd a break from the fluffy uplifting trance and moving towards something a little darker.
Recommended.
