AR52 - Piiska

J00F

Catalogue Number: J00F26

Well what we have here is the latest forthcoming release from John 'OO' Fleming's mighty JOOF label, this time with the latest track from Miika Kuisma, DJ Tab & Luke Chen otherwise known as AR52. MPFS member Arksun, fresh from his remixes of both MPFS003 and P.O.S - Gravity is brought in this time for remix duties.

Original Mix

This starts with a typical crisp kick and percussion with some echoing almost white noise fx in the background. A mellow arpeggiated synth line comes in over the top as the then the driving bassline kicks in hard at around the minute mark and off we go! Layers of acidy synths come in over the top and we're into pure stomping peaktime trance of the highest order as layers of lush synthy string pads build the atmosphere towards the break just after the 2 minute mark. The acidy synths and layers of pads then a gorgeous ascending synth riff comes in from the background building and building with the bassline and then a monstrous snare roll and the tune kicks back in hard. A second short drop at around 4:30 builds it all up again before we drop again to the pads and the outro. Awesome stuff indeed!

Arksun Remix

This begins with a thudding boom which drops away to some weird atmospheric fx and percussion then a hollow synth riff comes into the intro with his typical gorgeous clear production style. A mellow synth riff comes over the top then the thumping kick drum really starts the ball rolling beautifully. Crisp claps and hi's join the fray until the drop just after the 2 minute mark where the beats drop away to sweeping almost wind-like pads and fx as the bassline comes in with a screeching distorted synth. The bassline filter begins to open out then the beat kicks back in with a stunning acidy bassline which I can imagine taking the roof off on a big club PA and then I'm almost blown away as one of the most gorgeous spacey synths riffs I've ever heard. The lush pads layer on top and then the beats drop away to the original hollow synth riff from early on in the track alongside gorgeous sweeping strings - this has to be heard to be believed and I think the word epic sums this up perfectly! When the tune kicks back in with that awesome synth line again you can just imagine the club going absolutely nuts - I literally can't wait to play this out to see the reaction.

Overall another simply stunning release from JOOF. Some may favour the original which is a fantastic stomping peaktime monster but for me the pick of the bunch is the Arksun mix which is nothing short of exceptional and for sure any trance fan is bound to love one mix or the other. Definitely up there for one of the tunes of the year without any shadow of a doubt. Trance dead? - you have gotta be joking! Essential.
