John OO Fleming - Le Yoyage EP
J00F Records
Catalogue Number: J00F014/J00F014R
Well I should have been reviewing this a month ago, but due to the kind people at the Post
Office, the promo mailing of this didn't go out 4 weeks before street date so I got it roughly the
same time as the shops did which was a bit disappointing. Ah well these things happen. Anyway -
here's what you get on two slabs of vinyl (if you buy both parts of the EP):
Part One:
A1) The Main Voyage (featuring The Digital Blonde)
B1) Tour De France
Part Two:
A1) New Sound!
B2) Finnished (Featuring Miika Kuisma)
Starting with The Main Voyage we have a nice piece of driving moody trance. It kicks off with a
nice pounding kick then moody choir sounds drop in over the top. A small drop then the bassline drops
back in with the kick to be joined by some nice arpeggiating synths and synthy strings over the top.
It's quite a dark moody kind of tune which will work well when taking a set in a bit deeper and less
euphoric but whilst keeping the pace and drive. I particularly like the gothic type choirs in the break
and the almost sinister strings and synths.
Onto Tour De France and probably the strongest tune of the four in terms of crowd-pleasing
ability. Quite a slow tune compared to the previous one (around the 135 or so BPM) but it's a cracker.
Starting with a nice kick and some background chords the bassline soon drops in to get things moving.
Nice chimey synths in the background add to the atmosphere, as do the powerful synth chords. The track
builds and builds then drops away to a superb acidy bassline which filters in and out - just my sort
of trance! The break down brings us layer upon layer of strings and synths and then the main riff begins
to come out of the background - superb and really uplifting stuff. When this kicks back in with the
drums and bass this is gonna take the roof off! Superb - check this track out and a surefire inclusion
on my next cd.
Over to Part 2 and we begin with New Sound. Again quite a dark driving bit of trance which
will work well mid-set. Dark acidy synths and basslines along with vocoded speech samples makes it
quite a techy little offering. Fans of the darker trance will love it but it's not really my thing.
Dont get me wrong - it's quality trance but a bit dark for my usual style.
Lastly we come to Finnished, a collaboration with Miika Kuisma, one of the guys behind AR52 who
also release on John's label. This is definitely right up my street, nice crisp beats and a bouncing
bassline get me interested from the word go. A nice synth riff drops in over the beats n bass to take us
towards the break and then we drop back in with more synths and choirs as it builds again towards the end.
A nice piece of trance which will work in most sets.
Overall then a pretty stunning pair of vinyls. I'll happily be playing 3 out of the 4 tunes as
between them you can pretty much cover any angle from light and synthy to darker more and more techy.
A must-purchase as far as I'm concerned.
