John Askew - Air Guitar
Recover
Catalogue Number: Discover 008
John Askew, highly acclaimed producer and remixer in the more
classier, vastly respected 'underground' trance circles is back with a
subtle banger. I say subtle because it's not euphoric in the sense of
a mainstream Ferry Corsten production, it has that Askew stamp; bounce
without the cheese. The man has tremendous production skills, and Air
Guitar doesn't disappoint on that score. His fans should definitely have
cause to further sing the man's praises.
If you're expecting a thrashing rock riff at twenty paces, you
may well be relieved/disappointed to know that it's not the case. If
on the other hand you're looking for early set building material laced
with a bevy of arpegated synths, and a soothing and rather cool sounding,
almost acoustic guitar twinkling's then is the track for you. A driving
bassline keeps the pace steady throughout, it doesn't really go anywhere
as such, but you don't find your mind wandering as intrigue levels are
kept high generally for the duration of the tune.
Not the kind of track that's going to set the trance world a
blaze, but it's further example of what a quality producer John Askew is.
Previous efforts namely, The Door do stand slightly above Air Guitar
though. However this should sit firm in most of the discerning Djs record
boxes.
