Estuera - Travels / 7 Clouds

Blackhole Recordings

Catalogue Number: BH172-5

Well I was lucky enough to source a copy of this new promo this time from Jonas Steur otherwise known as Estuera. Onto the vinyl and you get the following tracks:

A) Travels
B) 7 Clouds

Starting off with Travels, this begins with a phased percussion loop which is soon joined by some mellow synth chords and layered pads. Hi-hats and other percussion join and then the bassline and kick drop in at just after the minute mark and get things started. Layers of filtered fx and synths build the track then a powerful short synth riff kicks in as the percussion comes in at full tilt to give the track some more power. The track drops to the break with layers of choral pads alongside a vocal snippet 'try to imagine' with haunting synths then a stunning uplifting synth riff comes in with a breakbeat in the background which works a treat. The beats kick back in driving the track along again towards another break after the 6 minute or so mark to build more atmosphere with the vocal and riff, this time filtered in from the background. A good long intro track which can be used as a set opener with it nice build from the beginning and would work well in a mid-timed set in a club. Good stuff

Onto 7 Clouds and this starts with a nice pumping beat and bassline soon joined after a few bars by a nice bubbling synth riff. Extra fx and percussion drop in as the track begins to build, with layers of choir pads and strings in the background. A higher pitched synth bassline comes in to really lift the track with bleepy synth riffs in the background and then the beats drop away to a synth chord riff for a short break before the beats and bass kick back in. The main break drops to an almost Koto-like synth riff which gives this an almost oriental feel which is nice and a refreshing change from the standard trance tracks. Again quite a mellow uplifting track which will work early in a peaktime set. Again, later in the tune a second break later builds the tension before the beats kick back in and get the crowd moving.

Another goodie from Black Hole and one for possibly the more discerning DJ. Not as catchy as some other tunes, these take a good few listens to truly appreciate the subtle details in their production. Good for the end of a warmup set or the beginning of more peak-time sets these are both worth checking out. Definitely a producer to keep an eye on in the coming months.
