Mat Silver - Sensory/Lost In Time

Above the Sky

Catalogue Number: ATSLTD003

Yep you've got it - this is ANOTHER new release from the ever-production ATS guys. This time the new release from Mat Silver (of Ultimate Wave fame with Tony Burt) and this time is a double a side. If you've read my previous reviews, you'll know that I'm a huge fan of this label (and the shop's pretty damn good too) so I was looking forward to this.

Let's start off with 'Sensory'. This starts with a nice pumping bassline and percussion then a quick tom roll kicks in some more percussion with a nice long intro allowing those nice long transitions loved by us trance DJs. Layers of synths build over the basslines along with some nice unusual percussion (sounds like tablas or something) which is a nice change from the norm. A nice arpeggiating synth lead comes over the top as we go through a nice changing chord sequence which reminds me (and this is no bad thing) of Gouryella-type tracks. The breakdown comes and wow!!!- seriously uplifting pad chords and again I'm reminded of Gouryella. This is quality trance in a 1999 stylee - superb is the word!!! This is going to get battered over the next few months BIG TIME!!

Over onto the b side for Lost In Time. This is the harder of the two tracks with some full-on stomping beats and saw wave style driving bassline - very nice. Acidy synth riffs drop over the top - this is proper full on trance toonage and not for you fluffy trance fans this one! The breakdown comes and we have an emotional delayed synth riff which bubbles out. Now I have to say I could live without the speech sample here but it doesn't detract from the tune enough to spoil it (unlike the crap sample in Damager03) but I'd prefer it without. Still a quality bit of peak time trance but tbh I'll probably go more with Sensory out of the two tracks simply because I don't like the speech bits.

Another quality release from the ATS guys (no surprise there!) - keep it up guys and tranceheads like me will be a very happy bunch indeed! Highly Recommended.
