Micheal Woods - X
Incentive
With Michael Woods you always know exactly what to expect. Generally that's undisputed
quality, second to very few. In terms of production 'X' is no different to previous efforts;
Warrior, Voodoo, If you want me et al. It does however have one very fatal flaw, it doesn't
live up to the afore mentioned Woods outings by any stretch of the imagination. In fact it doesn't
even come close. Cheesy and rather 80's sounding sci-fi synths ripple over the self-indulgent
trance trickery and rolling breakbeats. In all honest these would be better suited to a low budget
Hollywood b-movie than your sound system. The track is simply up its own arse, and the head
disappears even further during a twilight piano breakdown.
On the upside, but possibly only if your name is Michael Woods, it's getting plays from
Judge Jules so those who don't know any better will lap it up like a cat with a saucer of full
cream milk. For that annoying reason it gets an above average response when dropped in a main
room environment. Every Warrior tune which surfaces has an awful lot of hype surrounding it.
The pessimists will tell you sooner or later a tune would fail to live up to its reputation, and
here is the proof.
In short, it's uninspiring, cheesy and a show of arrogance. Put out more stuff in this
ilk, Michael and even the king of cheddar, Judge Jules may begin to loose patience. Let's hope
'X' doesn't mark the beginnings of a fall from grace for the 'Warrior', I’m sure we all couldn't
bare another Darren Tate.
