Classified Project - Starlight Chaser
Mondo Records
Catalogue Number: MND012
I received an e mail the other day from Mondo records, it asked me very nicely if I’d
like to review their latest offerings on the site. I cringed. I’m skeptical of trance
music, you all know that, I constantly remind you all it’s had its day! Yet here I was
presented with free music on the grounds I give my opinion on the site. After much thought
and consideration I decided to take one for the team and give it a bash.
Have to say I'm fond of the intro. The various drum beats added a Safri Duo feel to
it, you know the whole bongo bashing? The style of the intro is one of those every
Dj creams themselves over. A lengthy beat to get things going then melodies and riffs
kind of fade in making blending with the previous track a piss of piss.
When the beat drops and we’re presented with the breakdown, it feels familiar. Maybe
it’s a remake of a classic anthem, maybe it’s too close to home on tracks stored in
my MP3 dir or maybe it’s because THIS is the trance that still gets me ticking. Either
way before long I found myself sitting on my feet doing a little jig in my chair in
full view of the outside world, dear god I hope Rachel Stevens doesn’t walk by now,
I’d of ruined my chances!
When things kick back in you get what you expect, a fabulous beat over the beautiful riff
jammed packed with euphoric energy. I’m not technical so could be wrong on the sample
used but those stringy things in the background are sweet, real nice and uplifting.
I’m also partial to the second break down. All too often the second breakdown is a mere
repeat of the first only half the length. This is one of those teaser jobbys, real short,
no riff, just strings, a simple kick then BAMM, your back where you want to be.
This is a bloody good effort, reassuring to know that good trance is still available
to the mass market. If you’ve not got this/heard it put it on your “To buy” list.
Essential music.
Agnelli & Nelson mix
Take out the second intro, water down the euphoria and lengthen the breakdown and you
have the Agnelli & Nelson mix. It’s not all that different from the original, I expect many
of you will stick with the A side unless you want to perform a silly long mix (the intro
runs for some 4 minutes plus). There's not really that much else to say about this.
Don’t get me wrong it’s still amazing, but nothing ground braking in terms of difference.
Toss a coin, heads for the A side, tails for the B side, either way, your in good hands.
