The Green Martian - Ladies & Gentlemen
Mondo Records
Catalogue Number: MND018
Any self-respecting trance fan should know the name Laurent Véronnez, who under his various aliases of Airwave,
The Green Martian etc has produced some of the finest trance tunes over the last few years. This track was
originally released on the Bonzai label in 2004, and now Mondo have grabbed it for a UK release with a brand
new remix from GD.
Original Mix
For those not familiar with The Green Martian style, we're talking tough driving techy trance of the highest
order and this is no different. A thudding kick drum and filtering perc kicks things off and is soon joined by
a hollow sounding synth which soon drops into the vocoded voice line of 'Hello.... Ladies And Gentleman'......
then booom in kicks the bassline. Tough driving trance is the score here as the percussion builds towards a
short break just after the 2 minute mark. The main break drops just after the 4 minute mark as again the
vocoded vocal line drops in alongside the bleeping main riff. The kick pounds back in as the bassline filters
in from the background before the typical stabbing synth line drives over the top building and building before
pounding back in with a vengeance.
GD Mix
This takes things on a much different vibe to the original. It begins with a filtered percussion line and bass
which then drops in a kick and bassline which is more of your typical trance variety. The bassline begins to
build alongside additional percussion and a well twisted snare sound which makes this stand out. The vocoded
vocal again kicks in just after the minute mark then a lush dark synthy bass synth line really begins to kick
things off a treat. The main synth line from the original then begins to stab over the top as it begins to build
towards the break at around the 3 minute mark. A short section of lush sweeping pads come in before the beat
then kicks back again the tune begins to build to the main break just after 4 minutes with the original bleepy
synth riff and vocoded voice again make an appearance. Much more atmospheric than the original and definitely a
great rework.
Now the thing here is a good few trance fans will probably already have this from the original Bonzai release
which makes marking this a tricky call. However, the GD mix is a beauty and that alone makes it more than worth
checking out, even if you do own the original as it gives it a completely different vibe. Those of you who don't
already own the original firstly give yourselves a slap and then go and listen to this - you won't be
disappointed.
