Morpheus - Signs/Magnetica
Armada Records
Catalogue Number: CVSA002
Another storming release from the Capitvating Sounds offshoot of Armada and is just as good as you would
expect when Steve Helstrip teams up with David Jacob & Paul Mendez (of Jacob & Mendez fame). I'm a huge fan of
Steve's work and I also loved Deception, the last release from Jacob & Mendez too so this was highly anticipated
indeed!
The a side of the vinyl brings us Signs which has that Thrillseekers sound beautifully stamped all over it.
This is the mellower of the two sides but this is no weakness I assume you. Excellent production as you would expect
and the distinctive portamento synth riff over the bassline means this track will work anywhere in a set. The break
drops choirs and strings over the riff and I'm loving this - this is JUST my kind of trance! Nice and pumping but
with those nice drops which the crowd will love - total hands in the air trance.
Over onto the b and we have the more powerful of the two tunes, Magnetica. This is definitely a peak time
trancer of the highest order with tougher percussion than Signs and a higher BPM. A nice rolling bassline and little
acidy synth stabs in the background kick this off nicely. This is joined by a distorted synth sound which moved things
on towards the break as the main chord riff joins in and pumps up the power of the track. This is very similar in
style to some of the Pulser productions, so if you like that kind of trance, be sure to check out this side as well!
Proper driving trance which will have the crowd in the palm of your hands for sure.
Another excellent double-sider from Captivating and yet another one I'm both charting highly and keeping
right at the front of my box. Most trance fans are sure to find one of the two excellent productions to their taste
and I'm hoping that this team will get together again soon if this is the quality of tracks they can come up with.
