Alucard vs Yana Kay - Eyes of a Perfect Stranger

MPFSRecords

Catalogue Number: MPFS002

MPFS Promotions on their own site need little introduction from me, basically what we have hear is a gem of a release, a fusion of gorgeous prog and euphoric trance of the highest order. With no disrespect to the artists involved with the label's debut release, the second offering from MPFS sees the bar raised several notches to a much higher level of class within the overall package. Alucard, who has been a big favourite on this site hooks up with Latvian vocal sensation Yana Kay for a vocal monster. So, let’s get down to business.

Original mix

One thing that I've always admired about Alucard is his ability to craft intricate and intriguing beats, this is highlighted perfectly here. Quality of production has always been for me one of the plus points about the progressive genre, and although this falls more-so into the prog-trance category, the principles are still the same, it's extremely intelligent. Once the synth layer joins, the obvious comparisons to Motorcycle's As the rush comes will instantly spring to mind. I'm aware this was actually made prior to ATRC, cynics will probably think otherwise. The fact remains this is one hell of a track. From here on in, lush strings wash the backdrop like a free flowing river. To describe a track as journey-like these days is somewhat of a cliché, however, answers on a postcard if there is a better, more fitting description for eyes of a perfect stranger. Once the Yana's sultry vocal drops, emotions run high, beautifully executed and working in complete harmony with its surroundings. As each element unfolds the addiction level of the track rises, and the final clinching element is the sweet synth line which adds a trancier feel to proceedings.

In summary, the original mix is a breathtaking voyage through beautiful caverns of sweet orchestral strings, vibrant beats, and bouncing synth lines. You'll find it extremely difficult not to succumb to the charms on offer.

Will Holland's Blue room remix

Flip the vinyl over and the trance purists have exactly what they yearn for every time a new slice of vinyl comes their way. Will Holland, who has been somewhat of a revelation this year, turns in a awesomely uplifting remix. Full on trance, of the first class variety. True this won't score any points for originality, but when it sounds this good, who's going to complain? Certainly not me and judging by the reaction consistently when this tune is played, certainly not the clubbing fraternity.

We kick things off with a crisp bass drum which pounds out a powerful 4/4 beat with DJ friendly stamped all over it. The sublime bassline lurks with malice beneath as it builds with intensity. Yana's vocal again sounds sweet under the light synths which takes us onwards towards the hands-in-air sing-a-long breakdown. The break is subtle to a degree and isn't packed to the rafters with strings and effects. A warm pad keeps a nice feeling, whilst the main focus is given to the vocal. The lead synth is waiting to explode, the snares roll, and the crowd awaits the drop. The melody is addictive to say the least, and pure carnage on the floor as the crowd aborbs the lead. It's what trance is all about, thoroughly enjoyable.

All in all, MPFS002 will no doubt put the label firmly on the map. The anticipation surrounding this release has been unavoidable and massive; if you've been out in clubland you may well have heard it take the roof off. Both mixes offer a slice of something different, which makes this an excellent double header, with something for everyone.
