Descent & Nicholas Bennison - Revention
Propulsion Records
Catalogue Number: PRP003
Here we have the third release on the Propulsion label out of the US and this time a
collaboration between Descent & label owner Nicholas Bennison, who are both becoming
well known for some quality progressive and trance productions of late.
The promo vinyl contains the following:
A1) Original Mix
B1) Nicholas Bennison Mix
Starting with the original mix, this begins with a stong kick and layers of cool
percussion. Layers of echoing synth fx drop in from behind as the percussion builds
to around the minute mark, where the warm progressive bassline gets the groove going
until the drop at around the 2 minute mark as a short vocal snippet echoes into the
background as haunting pads and synths make this a lush prog masterpiece. Synthy stab
chords also join in the fray and you can't help tapping your feet and nodding your head
as the beat drops away leaving the stabby synth riff and swirling pads and fx before the
beat kicks back.
Over to the Nicholas Bennison mix and we have a more progressive trance vibe and higher
bpm. A nice kick drum and grooving bassline start the proceedings off beautifully with
layers of synth fx and pads soon building up the atmosphere alongside the synth stabs
from the original. Squelchy acidy synths drop in as the tune builds to wards a drop,
leaving the kick and bassline to keep the groove. The synth stabs work again beautifully
over this lush mellow trancey arrangement.
A fantastic release from the Propulsion stable. Already receiving good support from PVD,
Christopher Lawrence (it was in his Essential mix) and more means this is a guaranteed
one for the box. The a side is a perfect lush prog tune which will work beautiful for
warm up sets and the b kicks up the bpm to make it one of those useful tunes to start to
pick up the bpm or to drop mid-set to give the crowd a rest from those big euphoric
numbers. Anyone who complains prog is dull and boring needs a firm kick and pointing in
the direction of this tune. Awesome stuff.
