Ronald Van Gelderen - Crying Out
Purple Eye Records
Catalogue Number: N/A
Well we've not seen anything of Ronald (aka Kid Vicious) for a few months since the
awesome 'Sustain' which I well and truly hammered for a good month or two last year.
This time we've got a single-sided promo of his new tune 'Crying Out' which features
the vocal talents of none other than...... himself!! I actually first heard this a
few weeks ago when I was playing a B2B with Dan Platten at Baby Passion who played it
during our set and it went down very well.
Starting off with a nice stong beat and conga riff, this is soon layered with fx and
then at around the 38 second mark, a bouncing bassline comes in as the tune starts to
build. A short drop and the tune really kicks in as the main arpeggiated synth riff
quietly comes in from the background. The synths drop away to just the kick and bassline
and the vocal line drops in. Now I have to say I was pleasantly surprised - Ronald's
style is a kind of punky delivery which actually works pretty well. The main euphoric
synth riff really works well but at the end of the day, it's going to come down to
whether you like the vocals or not. I reckon they actually work well as a nice change
from the velvety female vocals we always have in trance but obviously some people aren't
gonna go for em so I imagine the final release will have an instrumental version as well.
In summary, nice arrangement and if you like the vocals, then a great little tune and
definitely worth a listen. The final judgement is still out on this one atm as I need to
play it out a few times and get some crowd reaction. Worth checking.
