Ronald Van Gelderen - Sustain
Purple Eye
Catalogue Number: N/A Scheduled November on Tsunami
Well what can I say - I first heard this monster months ago back at Passion when
the man himself played it. I've then heard it a few times dropped by Ferry etc. but it
wasn't until I heard JFK play it at Psychout that I ran up to the decks in one of those
sad tunespotter moments going 'WTF is this tune!?' and actually found out the mystery
track was Sustain. After weeks of scouring round I now have the sticky piece of vinyl
in my mitts at last!!
Ronald Van Gelderen (aka Kid Viscious) first came to my attention with his
excellent (IMO) remix of 'Punk' by Ferry Corsten. His first full release under his own
name, 'Proceed' was a massive hit and hammered all over the world by anyone into their
quality trance. Fans should also check out 'Indecisive' under his Electrobics alias which
is a stunning bit of progressive trance (check my Sunset To Sunrise mix where this is
featured on the Sunset cd).
Anyway back to the tune. This to me is how trance should be - full on driving
beats and synths and perfect for mid to end of any trance set. The breakdown drops with
a small vocal snippet 'All it takes...' and then the wicked reversed style synth riff
kicks in and the crowd go honey nut loopy. Massive power chords bring the riff in and
the beats and bass kick in big time. If you haven't heard this yet, don't worry and
you can bet your life it will be hammered all over club land once it sees a full release.
Absolutely essential and one which will be sitting at the front of the box for many months
to come.
