O.R.N. - Smalltown Boy / The Decision
Sexonwax
Catalogue Number: SEX012
Release date: 10/05/2004
This dropped through the post this morning and what you get here is a new release
from Omid '16B' under his O.R.N. alias, which I've not seen since his track Snow a good
few years back. You might have also seen some white labels kicking around with 'ORN - The
Decision' on and these are the instrumental mixes of this track, apparenly cained by Danny
Howells, Dave Seaman and some other top DJs.
Onto the vinyl and you get the following:
A1) Vocal Mix
B1) The Decision Mix - DJ Tool (The Instrumental)
Starting with the Vocal mix and basically what you've got here is a proggy version
of the Bronksi Beat classic with Barnaby Wallace on vocal duties. Similar in style to other
16B stuff, nice chunky beats and production but to be quite honest this is way too commercial
for me and I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole. It'll probably go down an absolute storm in
the cheesy town bars and the like but not for me.
Onto the B side which is the mix the DJs have been playing and basically it's a nice
proggy number which just contains the riff from the Bronski Beat tune without any of the
crappy vocals. Having said that I still can't see what the fuss is about and I certainly won't
be playing this out and about. It might vaguely work at the end of the night or something
after a dark prog set but it's not something I'd go for.
Mind you, Hooj.com have sold out of all the initial promos so obviously someone likes
it - just not me
