The Shove Brothers - Paranoia
020 Records
Catalogue Number: 020004
Another tasty promo arrives from Tony and the guys over at Above The Sky, and this time
it's the new release on their tougher 020 imprint. The production this time comes from
The Shove Brothers, an alias for Kuffdamn & Plant (whos current production 'Seduction'
has just been signed to JOOF) alongside Craig Macfarlane. Onto the vinyl and what you
get this time is the following:
A1) DJ Danjo & Rob Styles mix
B1) Original mix
Starting with the A side and we have the typical quality production you can expect from
Danjo & Styles. I hammered their Anticipating track on Silver Premium for ages so this
was looking very promising as I love their tougher and techier trance sounds for my later
sets.
Anyway, it kicks off with their usual tough driving beat and nice busy percussion with
layers of congas and other goodies which makes it sound refreshingly different to the
usual uplifting fluffier trance sound. Nice pumping bassline also joins in over the beats
and stabbing filtered synths layer over the top following by lush pads as we go towards
the break. The beat drops away to echoing percussion and fx the main riff begins to filter
in from the background, a blippy portamento synth drops in and is built by layers of pads
and strings - nice. A breakbeat kicks in from the background to build the atmosphere and
really works well as the strings drop away and a touch techy stabbing riff drops over the
breakbeat which gets harder with a layer of staccato voices then boom the beat kicks back
in with an vengeance. Top stuff all round and a surefire peaktime play this weekend.
Over onto the original mix and this starts with a dark booming filtered kickdrum and bassline
with filtering fx stabs over the top. Dark spooky synth lines trickle in over the beat and
fx as the bassline kicks in. A short drop into echoing fx and then a techy bleep synth riff
kicks back in with the beat with hi hats and off we go. Stabbing synth chords join in to
bounce this tune on nicely. If you like the Ronald Van Den Beuken sound this could be right
up your street. Again the break drops to the same bendy twisty synth riff and kicks back
tough and driving.
Another nice release on 020. Fans of the more tougher trance from the likes of Marco V, Mark
Norman, Ronald Van Den Beuken etc should check get this checked out immediately as I'm
sure you'll love it. Out of the two sides, I'm more drawn towards the Danjo & Styles with
it's tough tribal beats - awesome for late pumping sets.
