Alex Gold - Stranded In Paradise

Xtravaganza Records

Catalogue Number: N/A

I have to admit when this landed on the doormat I wasn't exactly overly excited to begin with, based on the last Alex Gold track I was mailed wasn't very good at all (great production but awful vocal). Anyway Agnelli & Nelson have been brought in this time to do damage on the remix front so did they manage it?

Promo vinyl contains the following:

A1) 12" Club Mix
B1) Agnelli & Nelson Mix

Starting with the 12" club mix, this starts with layers of lush arpeggiated synths and sweeping pad layers and I'm already surprised - this is not bad, not bad at all. The pads drop away to bring in the vocals of Mark Sales with the slightly vocoded style similar to those on Tiesto's - Love Comes Again. The bassline drops in over the vocals and then the beat and percussion kick in to start things off nicely. Stabby synths over the bassline plus a strange distorted guitar style synth work well as the pad layers build the atmosphere over the top. The beat drops away to the chorus and then kicks back in. Nicely produced and the additional arpeggiated synth line at around 4 mins gives it a nice hook - nice for early sets and will work very well in the mainstream clubs thats for sure.

Onto the other side and we have the Agnelli & Nelson mix - now we're talking. This starts off with a nice kick and bassline - none of that beat intro messing about business here and much more full-on than the other mix. The percussion filters out from the background and then a haunting mellow synth line comes in to lift the atmosphere a little - good stuff so far. Vocal snippets of 'In' drop in over the top alongside typical A&N synth layers and then drop away just aftre 2 minutes in to the main vocal hook of the song and I have to say the vocal really does work well on this mix and for someone who's not really into a lot of vocals that's saying something! The nice driving beats and synths really turn this into a full on peaktime trancer with massive crossover potential - I've already heard this out a couple of times and it's getting good support across the board. If you like the Agnelli & Nelson sound this will be right up your street.

Overall a very surprising package - I went in expecting to be disappointed and instead I'm very surprised. Definitely worth checking out and has the potential to be very big.
