Empreal Sun - Twisted Reality
ATCR
Catalogue Number: TCOM038
Well unless you've been living under a stone for the last year or so you can't have possibly failed to hear of the original
mix of this amazing tune which came out in 2003 on the Galactive label. Well ATCR have licensed it for a UK release and brought
onboard the awesome Paul Moelands aka Re:locate to provide a new take on things.
Onto the promo vinyl and you get the following:
A1) Twisted Reality (Re:Locate Rocks The Boat Mix)
B1) Twisted Reality (Original Mix)
B2) Intense Emotion
Now I'm not going to bother going through either of the two tracks from the original Galactive release, namely the Original
Mix and Intense Emotion because you MUST have heard them by now.
So onto the main event and the Re:locate mix. A short synthy pad chord starts things off as a punchy kick drops in alongside
a phasing percussion layer and tough gated snare. The layers of percussion begin to build, a quick drop at the minute mark
and then the bassline drops in and we have lift off! More and more layers of congas and other percussion build up the power
with layers of synths bubbling away. Then the beautiful almost classical oboe-like riff from the original drops in and I'm
just blown away. The powerful synth chords really drive on the track as it builds and builds before dropping to the break.
The layers of pads and bubbling acidy synths work beautifully alongside the riff then the chords drop to their own as main
synth chord sequence filters in over the top - awesome.
Whilst I love the original, I have to say I think this new mix blows it out of the water and really takes it into full-on
peaktime trance stormer territory. I always thought the original, although brilliant, was more suited to an early set but this
is tougher and more powerful in every respect. If you don't own the original, then this is an absolutely essential piece of
vinyl. If you do own the Galactive release, then check this remix anyway as I think it's nothing short of stunning and one
of the finest remixes Paul has done to date. An essential purchase.
