Tomcraft - Brainwashed (Remixes)
Data Records
Catalogue Number: DATA83P2
Well I'm not gonna review the original club mixes of the new Tomcraft track as you've
probably already heard Julesy and the other radio DJs playing this all over.
What we have here is the 2nd disc which contains the following:
Brainwashed (Call You) - DJ Choose and F's That Mucho remix
Loneliness - Above and Beyond remix
Firstly onto the main remix. For those of you into your harder trance, you've probably
heard some of Choose and F's recent work on their superb remix of Michael Splint Pres. Eruption
- I Feel Free which came out a month or so ago on Nukleuz. Well first the good news - if you
loved that you'll probably love this. Now the bad news - the reason you'll love this is that
it's almost IDENTICAL to the Michael Splint remix. Same minor chords, same breakdown with a
synth riff playing the same notes then back into the powerful chords. It's so similar that there
is literally one or two notes different between the two tunes. Some might love it but tbh I prefer
the Michael Splint dub with just the pounding trance - I'm not particularly keen on the small vocal
which actually is the only thing which identifies this as the Brainwashed track.
Now some more good news - the Above and Beyond remix of Loneliness is excellent. If you love
A&B's work (and I do) then you won't be disappointed with this. Typical driving synth bassline and
percussion kicks us off then the nice little synth arpeggio joins in. Into the breakdown and the strings
come into the background and the vocal line kicks in. We get a nice synth riff, the buildup starts and
then the bass n synths kick back in and away we go.
Now I was sick to death of the original track by the time it came out (May 2003) as I'd been
playing it since late 2002 from import but this remix just gives it a new lease of life. Some might
hate it but I reckon it'll take the roof off played to the right crowd.
Definitely one to check if you're a fan of Above & Beyond but other people might want to look
elsewhere.
