Dreas Pres. Havannah - Havannah
Trance Revolution Recordings
Catalogue Number: TRR001
The first release from Andy Bagguley (Passion resident DJ) and Damion Houchen
(aka Genix) new label. If you haven't heard of this track before now you must have been
living under a rock for the last couple of months. Armin has already made it a Future
Favourite on his show and every top DJ is hammering it to the point where even Dave Pearce
is playing it on Dance Anthems (although I'm not entirely sure that's a good thing ).
Anyway, we've all heard the hype, but does the tune live up to it?
The vinyl promo contains the following:
A1) Original Mix
Mike Shiver Mix
Misja Helsloot Mix
Let's start with the original mix. The usual beat and nice bouncing bassline kicks
things off nicely and then after about a minute the originality hits you as a twangy guitar
note begins to chip in on the bar, making this sound very fresh and original. The guitar
notes build into a riff as the pads come in underneath adding to the emotion and depth of
the track then booom - we drop to the breakdown. Here the instantly recognisable guitar riff
plays over and over, the strings build and kicks the track back in beautifully - class. This
is one of those tunes the crowd will love and will totally take the roof off as the crowd
hear it mixing in. Absolute anthem material!
Over to the B side and we start with the Mike Shiver Mix. This begins with a more
pumping bassline and beat than the original and is much more peak to end of night trance
material than the original which is quite mellow. This is a full on pumping trance extravaganza
and is probably the mix I'll be hammering for peak time sets. Lush arpeggiated synth riffs
and powerful strings really bring this to life and the breakdown is really stunning, with a
breakbeat dropping in behind the main guitar riff. Brilliant and certainly worth checking if
you find the original a little mellow for you.
Onto the Misja Helsloot mix who kicks in with a mellow progressive trance affair.
Now I was playing with Andy from TRR on Friday who asked me if I noticed a problem with my
vinyl which I replied I hadn't, although I'd only just received it. Anyway he mentioned a
pressing problem with this particular mix and I have to agree that my copy too does seem a
little distorted. It's a shame as it's a very nice prog trance mix of the track which would
be perfect for a warm-up set. Andy mentioned that the first 1000 or so could all have this
problem so I'd try before you buy if you're only after this one particular mix.
In summary, this has anthem stamped in huge letters all over it. Apparently already
signed for a future Armin mix compilation it's bound to be popping up all over in the next
months. A brilliant start for Andy and Damion at TRR and certainly sure to get the label
started off in the right way - if their future releases are anywhere near as good as this,
tranceheads are going to be one very happy bunch. Essential - miss this at your peril.
