Union Jack - Two Full Moons & A Trout (2006 Remixes)

Platipus Records

Platipus are one of the longest serving record labels in the history of dance music. Simon Berry is the label owner and also one half of Union Jack. Two Full Moons & A Trout is one of Platipus' biggest hits and now comes with 3 new up to date remixes.

14" Classic Mix

This was only released on the Platipus Volume One album, but is by far my favourite mix of the track. It starts off with a some really lush pads and jungle esq sound effects before building up to a crescendo of stringed pads and a classic Union Jack esq drum riff. The track then drops into a classic Platipus style baseline. The vocals arent used as much as you'd expect. The great thing about this mix is the combination of baseline's it uses from the Original & Union Jack Remixes. It includes all the classic building platipus style riffs which fans of the label know and love! Some of the riffs even sound slightly more acid orientated. The only problem with this mix is that it seems a bit back to front to me! Doesnt really build up or go anywhere. I'd like to see the strings used in the middle of the track with a massive drop! Still a classic track tho!

The 2006 Remixes

First up is a remix from new comers Tektonik. I was very very suprised at how different this remix was compared to a lot of their other recent productions for Platipus. Doesnt really sound as much like their sound. The baseline is rather minimal and takes a back seat. They have had the vocals resung which dont work very well at all for me! The one thing which really puts me off the track though is that there is far too much going on from the word go and it is very difficult to mix in and out of. But I'll give the guys their props, its taken the track in a very different direction.

Next up is the Chab Remix. Chab has done plenty of producing over the past 6 years for Platipus under the alias of Moogwai. This remix is a much more progressive outing. It starts off with an incredibly annoying riff. Also added in are elements of the 14" classic mix and the baseline fades in after about 32 bars. I really like the way this mix has a proper breakdown, but I really dislike that annoying clangy riff which is used from the start and there is an awful moany electro style riff which is used every now and again which kind of ruins the mix for me. Apart from that, its a decent effort.

Finally we have Luke Chable's effort. Out of all the mixes, this was the mix I was most keen to hear and probably the most suprised once I had heard it. Its absolutely amazing. Chable has taken the track into a much darker dimension than I expected and turned in a brilliant progressive trance remix. The build up is very nice and the baseline doesnt come in until 3 1/2 minutes. This is by far the best remix of the entire package and is absolutely perfect for a warm up set.

Dispite the rather ridiculous name, this track has every right to be called a classic and these remixes have in their own ways done the track justice.
