Woody Van Eyden - Unfinished Symphony
Fenology Records
Catalogue Number: FEN001
Well at last the secret is finally out. For those who don't know, for months now there has been
a track called Unknown Artist - Unfinished Symphony which numerous tranceheads have been raving about.
Armin and other top DJs have been hammering it all over Europe and comments like 'trance track of the
year' are not uncommon on boards such as Tranceaddict about the tune. Now the vinyl finally hits the
streets as the first release from Fenology records and the producer is revealed as none other than
Woody Van Eyden who you may remember recently for his stunning remix of M.O.R.P.H. - Consequence which
along with the Benicio remix kept that tune in my box for about 4 months!
Anyway onto the tune and what a beauty it is! It begins with a driving beat and an almost hard
house sounding bass synth. Little bubbling acidy synths come in from the background, a nice synth riff
comes in to accompany proceedings and is sure to get the crowd moving. The breakdown is really uplifting
emotional stuff, similar to tracks such as Ligaya - this is top stuff indeed. Building and building synths
join the strings, the snares roll and the beats kick in again. Quality uplifting trance!
Onto the b-side and we firstly have the Funaki remix which is Woody's new project. This is a much
more powerful driving remix of the tune and similar in style to his Consequence remix mentioned above. This
is the mix I'll be hammering and I can see this popping up regularly towards the end of my sets for some
time - nice and pumping with acidy basslines and big power synth riffs in the breakdown instead of the
strings but with that same gread melody. Check this out because if you think the original is too fluffy
and emotion for your tastes, this could be JUST the ticket instead!
The second track on the b side is the Arc In The Sky mix which I have to say didn't do it for me.
I'll be sticking with the original for earlier sets and the Funaki mix for later ones. All in all though
a brilliant first release for Fenology and if this is an indication of future releases, a great new label
to watch.
