Dj comp 2006. The rules.

2006, been a great year for music hasn’t it? I wouldn’t know in all fairness, music still sounds the same to me, I occasionally hear a kick ass tune on a night out , can guarantee I’ll forget what its called the next day. Well, things cant be too bad, the site is still bustling with want to be Dj’s (many of whom have had the opportunity to play out to, well done!) So, as is now custom, we give you bidding Dj’s the chance to battle it out, find out who is the best in a no holds bard duel to the death... Kind of.

So, to start with, the do’s and don’ts. Follow this and you could be a winner, just send your name, address and credit card number to...

1. All sets must be completely legit. No dodgy mp3s. We’ve caught people out before, we’ll do it again, your a pikey if you cant afford £1.50 from beatport and you should go drown yourself in raw sewage.

2. Times have changed, no longer are dj’s sticking to vinyl, or CD’s for that matter. In normal years we’d only allow sets recorded live, however we’re quite happy to bend the rules this time and allow digital mixes in. There is a catch. Assuming you win and want the prize you’ll be expected to play a slot at a night we put on in 2007, if you cant mix digitally live, don’t do it at all.

3. All sets must be between 60/80 mins long and recorded at 128kbs. Anything shorter/longer gets disqualified. A set of 58 minutes followed by 2 minutes of silence is shoddy, lets have none of it please.

4. Whilst any form of electronic dance music goes, you’ll be expected to play at a trance/hard trance/hard house night (maybe with a bit of warm up breaks/funky). Think before you send off a happy hardcore set maybe?

5. All sets must be in by midnight on November the 30th. A minute later, tough shit I’m afraid.

Voting

The voting, different kettle of fish once again. Quite easy this time around though. If you enter you must vote on every other mix. Fail to do so is instance disqualification. Voting lasts for many a long time so there’s no excuse. Plus its only playing fair. For those who do not enter yet want to listen and vote, thank you for your participation, its muchly appreciated. Also as a note, level 1 members will not be allowed to vote. This is to avoid getting off siters to plug a mix. If you’re new to the site you’ve plenty of time to contribute to the banter before voting begins so don’t feel like you’re being shot down before the competition has started. Oh and single line votes will not be tolerated BY OTHER ENTRIENTS. Randoms yes thats fine, but entrants must give a detailed review.

If anything else comes up I’ll let the world know as quickly as I can. In terms of where to send your mix, you can e mail myself or Ricky with a link or upload it to our ftp (ftp.mpfreescene.com user : anonymous password : anonymous) in the folder called djcomp2006. Files uploaded here must be added to a zip/rar file. The zip/rar must NOT be titled your dj name, give it a completely random name BUT make sure the mp3 inside is labelled as you. This is for security reasons.

Any Q’s post them here or e mail us, and we’ll be happy to sort you right out.

none of that "too good for the site shit"

not too good for the site mate, got other reasons as to why i wont enter it, the main one is out of my control.

But i think its fair that the competition is opened up more to the people who deserve/want the opportunity more, ill try to review every one, but sadly wont be entering :)

lol

well this year I hope things will be different!

I'm going to review mine based soley on mixing, technical ability, eq, structure. Not basing anything on the music at all cuz I dont think it's fair to take marks away jus cuz u dont like the style of music the mix is.
