Graham
Jody Wisternoff, my hero. What he likes, I like. For the past year and a half I’ve been an avid fan of his music and his mix sessions, he is a musical guru. Around Christmas time he went through an Electro stage... so did I. And so when peeps at Godskitchen asked me to review Electric I didn’t hesitate to take the challenge. Ok so let’s dive straight in with CD 1. Its crap. Nah, I’m only joking, it’s not crap, it’s just very genre specific. If house enthused electro is your thing you'll lap this up like a... dog lapping up something he likes lapping up. It’s very spectrum like, lots of tape loading noises over a distinctive beat, hell half the time I didn’t even notice mixes, transitions were superb, no key clashes or anything. It doesn’t really go anywhere, stays at a constant pace throughout, no ups, no downs, not many vocals, just a deep beat with blippy noises over the top. CD 2, this is where the money is, has a trancier feel to it, builds from a steady pace before moving onto dark and dirty sounds, plus there’s no overkill on the spectrum load times. Some fantastic tracks featured on disc 2, Tiesto's Lethal Industry remix, Rank 1 and Armin's The world is watching me and a superb new mix of my favourite Marco V track Simulated. Disc 2 really stood out, before I knew it I’d listened to it twice and still let it play through a third time, it really is that good. So overall verdict? In my opinion, maybe I’m wrong, Electro is the Marmite of music genres, you either love it or hate it. If electros your flavour your REALLY going to enjoy this, it has everything for you, good selection of tracks mixed to an incredible standard, not just in terms of beat matching but structure too. If you’re not keen and find yourself standing in a queue at HMV with this in your hand waiting to pay you may as well throw the first disc away... you won’t like it. With so much variety on the second disc you'll find your hard earned pennies have been put to good use, the quality of trance is astounding; one can almost forget its electro! I can see this being a playlist favourite of mine for many a weeks to come, or at least till the next edition of Jody Wisternoff's Way Out There sessions makes it on the net!!! Buy this now!
